Buying a Home in the Fort Smith, AR Area: Fort Smith, Van Buren, Barling, Greenwood, Alma and Chaffee Crossing
The U.S. Marshals Service put its national museum on the bank of the Arkansas River in downtown Fort Smith, and 47,700 people walked through it in 2025 (Talk Business & Politics, April 2026). From the front door it is a short walk to Garrison Avenue, the main street. A few blocks northwest of the storefronts you are in Belle Grove, twenty-two square blocks of homes built mostly between 1870 and 1930 (Encyclopedia of Arkansas). Judge Isaac C. Parker, the hanging judge, lived there while he heard 13,500 cases in twenty-one years on the federal bench, and the neighborhood was the first historic district in Arkansas created by city ordinance under state law. Across the river in Van Buren, Crawford County still does its business in the courthouse at 300 Main Street, where the original section went up in 1842. The county describes it as the oldest county courthouse still in use west of the Mississippi (River Valley Democrat-Gazette, September 21, 2026). The daily paper is the River Valley Democrat-Gazette, and the River Valley is the name the whole stretch goes by, from Fort Smith through Van Buren and on east.
I'm Jeff Moran, NMLS #483943, a mortgage broker licensed in Arkansas through C2 Financial Corporation, and I have been in the mortgage business since 1996. I work from Bluffton, South Carolina, and I wrote this page for anyone thinking about buying a home on the Arkansas side of the Fort Smith area. The Fort Smith area is Fort Smith itself with its downtown and Belle Grove, the new neighborhoods at Chaffee Crossing and Barling, Greenwood to the south, and Van Buren, Alma and the smaller Crawford County towns across the Arkansas River. The metro also takes in Sequoyah County, Oklahoma, and I am not licensed in Oklahoma, so this page stays on the Arkansas side of the state line. We will walk through the places first, then I-49, the schools, the hospitals and the jobs. After that comes the homework on an address: which county and courthouse district it is in, the sewer and water bills, the Amendment 79 tax reset, the river and the roof. The facts come from public sources, cited beside the ones that matter most, and they were gathered in late September 2026.
Choosing between Fort Smith, Chaffee Crossing, Greenwood, Van Buren and Alma
Each of these places has its own things going on right now, and this section walks through them one at a time. As we go, I will point out the city, the county and the school district for each one, because those are the differences that reach your monthly payment when you are comparing two homes.
Fort Smith
Fort Smith had 90,855 people on July 1, 2025, by the Census Bureau's estimate (Talk Business & Politics, May 2026). Downtown and Belle Grove are where the city started. The Fort Smith National Historic Site keeps the story from 1817 to 1871, Judge Parker's court and the deputy marshals who rode out of it (Fort Smith National Historic Site). The Clayton House in Belle Grove, the home of the prosecutor who worked Parker's court for fourteen years, is open as a museum (Clayton House). If you are looking at a home in Belle Grove, the district was created by city ordinance, so the city is the place to ask what applies to exterior changes before you plan any. Downtown is also being rebuilt in places. Griffin Properties is rebuilding on the lot where the historic Adelaide Hall burned in late 2024, according to a roundup of restaurants coming to the city in 2026 (reprinted by Yahoo News).
Rogers Avenue is the other street you will hear about. Northside High School and Southside High School, the city's two public high schools, are both on it, and their football game is called the Battle of Rogers Avenue (NWA Democrat-Gazette, August 29, 2026). Mercy's new cancer center is going up at 7001 Rogers Avenue, and a Culver's with a drive-through was approved at 8450 Rogers Avenue for 2026, from the same restaurant roundup. On the south side, off Zero Street, Ben Geren Regional Park is the county's largest park (Sebastian County). The city's mountain-bike trail system there runs more than 14 miles, one of eleven systems the state lists as premier (City of Fort Smith trails). Along the river, the paved Greg Smith River Trail is the riverfront route. So if a home near downtown and a home on the south side near Ben Geren are both on your list, you can picture where each one puts you.
Chaffee Crossing and Barling
Chaffee Crossing is the name for more than 7,000 acres of the former Fort Chaffee army post, and the land spans Fort Smith and Barling. The Fort Chaffee Redevelopment Authority manages it for homes, industry, shops, offices and parks (Chaffee Crossing). Fort Chaffee is still the name of the military installation beside it, so when a listing says Chaffee Crossing it means the redevelopment. This is where most of the metro's new neighborhoods are. Chaffee Crossing's own residential page lists 44 neighborhoods and about 4,221 projected homes, an estimated 53% of them built. About 39% are single-family, and the rest are apartments, duplexes, townhomes and homes built to rent (Chaffee Crossing residential). The names you will see on listings include Abbington Creek, The Meadows at Chaffee on Wells Lake Road, Shire Glen and The Reserve at Chaffee Crossing on Chad Colley Boulevard. Paved shared-use trails link the Chaffee Crossing Historic District, Ben Geren park and the Arkansas Colleges of Health Education campus, the medical school campus on the former fort land (City of Fort Smith).
On any home there, the address decides whether you are in Fort Smith or in Barling, and that sets the city taxes, the utilities and the school district. With 44 separate neighborhoods, each one can also have its own association. So we ask early for the recorded covenants, which are the written rules for the neighborhood on file with the county, and for the dues, rather than at the end.
Barling, on the east side of Chaffee Crossing, had 5,452 people in 2025, up 13.8% since 2020, the highest percentage growth of any city over 5,000 in the metro (Talk Business & Politics, May 2026). The builder directory NewHomeSource listed 14 new-home communities from 7 builders in Barling on September 25, 2026 (NewHomeSource). So if a new build is what you want, Barling and Greenwood are the two towns with the most builder communities listed there. The new I-49 bridge over the Arkansas River starts at the end of H Street in Barling, where ARDOT broke ground on August 22, 2025 (ARDOT). A home near there will have a bridge and an interchange built beside it over the next few years, and the dates are in the I-49 section below.
Greenwood
Greenwood is a county seat, and so is Fort Smith. Greenwood was founded in 1851 as Sebastian County's first seat, and the seat moved to Fort Smith in 1854. The legislature split the county into two judicial districts in 1861, and in 1874 both towns became county seats (Encyclopedia of Arkansas). The Greenwood courthouse is a modern building because a tornado destroyed the old one on April 19, 1968 (American Courthouses). For you, that means a Greenwood home's records are kept at the Greenwood courthouse, in the county's southern district, and I come back to that in the county section.
On March 3, 2026, Greenwood voters renewed a 0.75% city sales tax for ten more years (Talk Business & Politics, March 2026). If you buy in Greenwood, that is the money that pays for another fire station, for repairs to the streets and bridges you will drive every day, and for more parks, over the next ten years. The Greenwood School District approved $6.7 million in bonds in July 2026 to improve its sports facilities (River Valley Democrat-Gazette, July 10, 2026). NewHomeSource listed 15 new-home communities from 8 builders in Greenwood on September 25, 2026 (NewHomeSource).
Van Buren
Van Buren is the Crawford County seat and the metro's second city, with 24,556 people in 2025, up 5.66% since 2020 (Talk Business & Politics, May 2026). Its downtown is the Main Street Historic District, and Second Saturdays and Downtown JunkFest are the recurring downtown events; please check the organizer for this year's dates (Van Buren A&P Commission). Also on March 3, 2026, Van Buren voters approved a new city sales tax, 1,182 votes to 1,014. It pays for parks and recreation work that includes a new community center, and for a new fire station and equipment (Talk Business & Politics, March 2026). Two publishers reported the tax at different percentages, so the rate is not on this page.
If you work in Fort Smith and are looking at a home in Van Buren, you cross the river on the way. The home is in a different county, with its own assessor, its own school district and its own floodplain administrator. The I-40 and Arkansas 59 interchange rebuild, which changes how you get onto the interstate from the city, is in the roads section below.
Alma and the Crawford County towns
Alma, with 5,825 people at the 2020 Census, is the northern end of the new I-49. It is also the town with a bronze Popeye on its downtown square, a nod to its spinach-canning history (Encyclopedia of Arkansas). Rudy, Dyer, Mulberry and Kibler surround it. ARDOT confirmed at a public session in Alma that no interchange is planned at U.S. 64 (5NEWS), so if the interstate is part of why you are looking at Alma, that is the fact to read a listing against. Alma also has its own subdivision regulations and master street plan, which matters if you are looking at a new lot there (City of Alma).
Mountainburg is where Fort Smith's drinking water comes from. Lake Fort Smith and the city's treatment plant are there, and I cover what that means for a water bill further down (City of Fort Smith Water Utilities). Cedarville is about five and a half miles from the Oklahoma border (Encyclopedia of Arkansas). Back on the Sebastian County side, Lavaca, Hackett and Mansfield each have their own school district, and the full district list is in the schools section.
I-49 from Alma to Barling, and the other road work
The largest thing happening in this metro is a new 14-mile, four-lane interstate connecting Alma to Barling, built in four phases (ARDOT). Phase 1 is a $282.5 million contract awarded to Manhattan Road & Bridge in October 2024. It covers 3.1 miles from Highway 22 in Barling to Gun Club Road, including the Arkansas River bridge and the Gun Club Road interchange ramps (ARDOT). The bridge will carry four lanes and run more than 5,200 feet, and ARDOT expects the ribbon cutting in early 2029 (ARDOT). Phase 2, from Gun Club Road to Clear Creek Road with five bridges, is expected to begin in 2027. ARDOT expects to award the contract for Phase 3, from Clear Creek Road to I-40 with six bridges, in late 2026, with construction starting in mid-2027. Phase 4 is the remaining paving and bridges up to the I-40 interchange. Congress added $18.8 million in the 2026 budget for the next phase (ARDOT).
So if a brochure for a new home in Barling, Chaffee Crossing or Alma mentions interstate access, these are the dates to read it against, and the first piece opens in 2029 at the earliest. At the Alma end, there is no U.S. 64 interchange in the plan, as I mentioned above.
In Van Buren, the I-40 and Arkansas 59 interchange is being rebuilt with a roundabout and new ramps, so the left turn onto the eastbound I-40 ramp becomes a right turn onto an access road. ARDOT said in May 2026 that it was on schedule to finish in late 2026 or early 2027, and the City of Van Buren put in about $3 million (5NEWS). Fort Smith Regional Airport is the commercial airport, and the Air National Guard base beside it is in the jobs section below.
The schools: bonds and buildings
Fort Smith Public Schools approved a $15 million bond package in May 2026 for construction and repair. The largest named items are roof work at Northside and Southside high schools, playground equipment across the district and drainage at Peak. The bonds were issued August 31, and the money has to be spent by August 31, 2029 (River Valley Democrat-Gazette, May 19, 2026). Greenwood's sports-facility bonds are in its section above.
The districts on the Arkansas side are Fort Smith, Greenwood, Van Buren, Alma, Lavaca, Hackett, Mansfield, Cedarville and Mulberry-Pleasant View, and a home's district follows the district map rather than its mailing address. On any home you are serious about, please ask the district office for the current attendance map for that address, because boards do redraw lines.
For adults, the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith opened its Advanced Manufacturing and Workforce Development Centers on May 4, 2026. They were paid for with nearly $7 million, a $1 million gift from ABB and $5.7 million in state HIRED grants (UAFS). UAFS was the first university in Arkansas to offer a bachelor's degree in advanced manufacturing engineering.
Mercy, Baptist Health and the medical campus
Mercy Hospital Fort Smith finished an expansion in May 2025 that took the emergency department from 29 rooms to 50 and the ICU from 38 beds to 64 (Talk Business & Politics, April 2026). Mercy is also building a cancer center at 7001 Rogers Avenue, on the west end of its campus, and it expects the center to be fully operational by July 2027 (Mercy, April 27, 2026). If cancer care close to home matters to you or to someone in your family, that is the date to keep beside the homes you are looking at. New cardiology and oncology-hematology clinics opened in August 2026. Mercy also runs the inpatient rehabilitation hospital on the Arkansas Colleges of Health Education campus at Chaffee Crossing, the medical school campus I mentioned above. Mercy and the Arkansas College of Osteopathic Medicine together train medical residents in Fort Smith.
Baptist Health-Fort Smith is the other hospital, and longtime residents and older listings still call it Sparks, because it was Sparks Regional Medical Center (Encyclopedia of Arkansas). Baptist Health closed its labor and delivery department there effective April 28, 2026 (Arkansas Advocate, April 1, 2026). If a particular service matters to where you buy, please look at Baptist Health's current service list for the Fort Smith campus before you decide.
Jobs: ArcBest, Ebbing, Trane and the manufacturers
ArcBest, the freight company that owns ABF Freight, is headquartered in Fort Smith. Manufacturing is about 17.5% of local employment, by the local chamber of commerce's count, and the chamber and the city list Gerber, Rheem, Mars Petcare, Baldor, Graphic Packaging and ABB among the plants in town (Fort Smith Chamber). Trane Technologies announced a $5 million expansion of its Fort Smith plant on August 19, 2025, with more than 60 new jobs at an average wage of about $25 an hour (Trane).
Ebbing Air National Guard Base, at the airport, was chosen by the Air Force in March 2023 as the training center for F-35 pilots from Singapore, Switzerland, Poland, Germany, Finland and other countries that buy the jet (Arkansas EDC). The Army Corps of Engineers broke ground on May 6, 2026 on a $74 million academic training center there, out of $141 million Congress approved (U.S. Army). On June 9, 2026 the Air Force formally approved expanding the mission by twelve more F-35s and a vertical landing pad (Federal Register, June 23, 2026). The foreign pilots who train there are not eligible for VA loans; the metro's VA volume comes from Guard members, veterans and retirees, and I cover that at the end.
The job count overall has slipped a little. Talk Business & Politics reported 101,100 nonfarm jobs in the metro in March 2026, down 1,000 from a year earlier, and the unemployment rate was 4.2% in March (FRED), while home sales rose over the same stretch. The local board's figures, as Talk Business reported them, show 708 sales in Sebastian County and 345 in Crawford County in the first half of 2026, each up about 6.5% (Talk Business & Politics, August 2026). The board's average price for that period was $253,006, and that figure covers the board's footprint of five Arkansas counties plus part of eastern Oklahoma, which is wider than the two counties on this page.
The county, and the courthouse district
Fort Smith and Van Buren face each other across the river, and they are in different counties. The county the home is in decides which assessor, which collector, which school district map, which property tax rate and which floodplain administrator you deal with. Sebastian County goes one step further and runs as two districts, the northern district with its courthouse in Fort Smith and the southern district with its courthouse in Greenwood. If you are comparing a home near Greenwood with one in Fort Smith, it is worth asking the title company which district each address is in, so you know which courthouse you will be dealing with for the records.
Your sewer and water bill in Fort Smith
Fort Smith has been under a federal consent decree since 2015, an agreement with the U.S. Department of Justice, the EPA and the state's environmental agency to fix a sewer system that had overflowed into local waterways for decades. A consent decree is a court-approved settlement, so the city's schedule and its spending on the sewer system are supervised by a federal judge. On July 23, 2026, Judge Timothy Brooks approved a modified decree that moves the completion deadline from January 1, 2027 to June 30, 2038. The modified decree makes it a condition that the city raise sewer rates 3.5% a year through 2030, with further increases after 2030 if other money does not cover the work. That is how the NWA Democrat-Gazette and Talk Business & Politics reported it (NWA Democrat-Gazette, July 27, 2026; Talk Business & Politics, July 2026). The 3.5% step for 2026 took effect on January 1. To pay for it, Fort Smith voters on May 13, 2025 extended a 0.75% and a 1% city sales tax from the end of 2030 to December 31, 2059. The city expects that to raise $360 million over 30 years for the sewer work (City of Fort Smith).
So a Fort Smith sewer bill rises every January on a schedule set by a court order and a city ordinance, through at least 2030. On a home inside the city, please ask the seller for the past twelve months of water and sewer bills, and when we build your budget we will put that line in with the January step included.
Fort Smith's drinking water comes from Lake Fort Smith in Mountainburg, in Crawford County. The city's treatment plant there draws from the Frog Bayou watershed and treats an average of 25.84 million gallons a day for about 150,000 customers across the western River Valley (City of Fort Smith Water Utilities). The city is planning a new 48-inch transmission line and plant upgrades estimated at $328 million to $585 million. The line would carry about two thirds of the plant's water into the city and all of the water south of Zero Street (NWA Democrat-Gazette, August 11, 2026). The board approved a $12 million federal funding request for it in April 2026. The city sells water outside its limits on contract, so a home in Barling or in unincorporated Sebastian County may get its water from Fort Smith and its sewer from somewhere else. Please ask which utility bills each service at the address.
Arkansas property tax: 20%, Amendment 79 and the reset when you buy
Arkansas taxes a home on 20% of its appraised value, and that 20% is called the assessed value (Arkansas DFA). The bill is the assessed value times the millage, with any credits subtracted. Millage is the tax rate stated in mills, and a mill is one dollar of tax for every $1,000 of assessed value. The millage on a given home adds up the school district's rate, the county's rate and the city's rate if the home is inside a city. So a home in Van Buren, a home in Fort Smith and a home in unincorporated Crawford County can carry three different rates. The Sebastian County and Crawford County collectors post the current rates, and the rate for the exact address is the one we use, so there is no rate on this page.
- The bill resets when you buy. Amendment 79 to the Arkansas Constitution caps how fast a home's taxable assessed value can rise after a countywide reappraisal. The cap is 5% a year for the home the owner lives in and 10% a year for other property, until the value reaches full value. The cap comes off when the home changes hands, and the new owner's assessment goes to full value. Sebastian County reappraised in 2025 and added about $2.7 billion in value across slightly under 57,000 taxable parcels, and about 90% of owners got a notice that their value had changed, as Arkansas Business reported (Arkansas Business). So on a Sebastian County home that the seller has owned for years, the seller's bill is probably riding the 5% cap, and yours will start from full value. I explain the general idea in what happens to your property taxes after you buy.
- The homestead credit is yours to ask for. Amendment 79 also gives a credit of up to $600 on the 2026 bill for the home you live in as your principal residence, raised from $425 (KTLO, January 3, 2026). It comes off after the millage is applied, and the county does not file it for you. You file the homestead application with the county assessor, and October 15 is the deadline for the current year's bill.
- The calendar. Real estate taxes for the prior year's assessment are payable from March 1 through October 15, with a 10% penalty after October 15 (Arkansas.gov Property Tax Center). Personal property such as vehicles has to be assessed between January 1 and May 31.
- Appeals. The Sebastian County Assessor publishes its process for appealing a value, and its own page says the county has settled into a more balanced market after five years of fast appreciation (Sebastian County Assessor).
Arkansas also charges a real property transfer tax, collected at the state level when the deed is recorded, and your purchase contract says whether you or the seller pays it. Closings in Arkansas customarily run through a title company. The Arkansas page covers the transfer tax and how to compare title quotes.
The river, the 1996 tornado and your insurance quote
The Arkansas River runs between Fort Smith and Van Buren, and both cities have a floodplain administrator. Van Buren publishes its floodplain management page and takes part in FEMA's Community Rating System, which gives flood insurance discounts by class (City of Van Buren). The discount on a Van Buren home depends on the class FEMA currently lists for the city, so please check the current class rather than an older figure. In the 2019 flood, record rain upstream in Oklahoma and Kansas pushed the river to historic levels. About 545 homes in the county were affected, and river traffic stopped at the port of Van Buren (Encyclopedia of Arkansas). You can read the river yourself: the National Weather Service keeps a gauge at Van Buren with the current stage and forecast (NOAA gauge VBUA4), and any address can be looked up on FEMA's Flood Map Service Center. For a home in FEMA's high-risk zone, the Special Flood Hazard Area, the lender will require flood insurance, and that premium becomes part of your monthly payment. Buying a home in a flood zone walks through pricing it in before you make an offer.
On April 21, 1996, at 11:12 at night, an F3 tornado crossed Garrison Avenue and the neighborhoods on both sides of the river in Fort Smith and Van Buren. Winds reached 200 mph on a path about half a mile wide, and FEMA estimated 1,800 homes damaged or destroyed (NOAA service assessment). On a resale, the age of the roof is worth confirming in writing, because the roof's age and the deductible both shape the insurance quote you get. Arkansas allows insurers to write a separate deductible for wind or hail damage to the roof, and many policies state it as a percentage of the dwelling coverage rather than a flat dollar amount. Please ask your insurance agent to spell that deductible out in dollars for the home you are considering. The state's Strengthen Arkansas Homes Program, from Act 427, helps eligible owners replace a roof with one built to the FORTIFIED standard. FORTIFIED is the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety's standard for how a roof deck is sealed and fastened down, and the Arkansas Insurance Department has the program's current terms.
Associations, condos and the Arkansas programs
Arkansas has no single statute for homeowners associations. An association runs on the covenants recorded against the neighborhood plus the state's Nonprofit Corporation Act. Some condominiums are also set up under the state's condo law, the Arkansas Horizontal Property Act, and you can tell from the master deed or declaration recorded for the building. At Chaffee Crossing, where 44 separate neighborhoods are planned, each one can have its own association. So on any home there, please ask for the recorded covenants, the current budget and the dues in the resale documents, and we put the dues into your monthly number.
The Arkansas Development Finance Authority runs the state's programs for homebuyers, named ADFA StartSmart, ADFA Move-Up, a down payment assistance second mortgage and a mortgage credit certificate (ADFA). The terms change, so we confirm the current ones with ADFA when we look at whether one fits your file.
The loan limits, VA and your payment
The 2026 conforming and FHA limits for Sebastian and Crawford counties are in the box below this article. Both counties have the lowest FHA limit in the country, which HUD calls the floor. The conforming limit is the largest loan Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac will buy in a county, and a loan above it is a jumbo loan. The local board's average price was around $253,000 for the first half of 2026, even on its wider five-county footprint. The FHA limit in these two counties is roughly twice that, so it is rarely what decides your loan in this metro.
The metro had 249 VA home-purchase loans in 2024, out of 2,136 purchase loans in all, by the home-loan data lenders report each year under the federal Home Mortgage Disclosure Act (2024). If you are a Guard member, a veteran or a surviving spouse, how VA loans work in Arkansas covers entitlement, the funding fee and the title-company closing. The sewer increases, the reset tax bill, the homeowners policy with its wind and hail deductible, flood insurance where it applies and any association dues are all part of the monthly payment a lender qualifies you on. That is why they are on this page. Pre-approval in Arkansas covers what the letter is based on. If you are also weighing Northwest Arkansas or Central Arkansas, the Northwest Arkansas page and the Little Rock page walk through those areas the same way.
When you're ready, you can run your numbers for a purchase in Sebastian or Crawford County: rates for your scenario and Arkansas closing costs, with no credit pull and no account. Choose the option that works best for you, and the application opens from there.
Nothing here is a loan approval, a denial or a commitment to lend, and it is not tax advice. The value a county uses for a specific property, and whether the homestead credit applies, are set by that county's assessor, so please confirm them with the county office.
Common questions
Is Chaffee Crossing in Fort Smith or Barling?
It is in both. Chaffee Crossing is the redevelopment of the former Fort Chaffee that the Fort Chaffee Redevelopment Authority manages, and it spans the two cities, while Fort Chaffee is still the name of the military installation. Which city an address is in decides its city taxes, its utilities and its school district, so please ask for the exact city and district on any home there.
Why does Sebastian County have two county seats?
Greenwood was the county's first seat in 1851, the seat moved to Fort Smith in 1854, the legislature split the county into two judicial districts in 1861, and in 1874 both became county seats. A Sebastian County home is in either the northern district, with its courthouse in Fort Smith, or the southern district, with its courthouse in Greenwood.
When will I-49 open between Alma and Barling?
It opens in phases. The first piece, from Highway 22 in Barling to Gun Club Road with the new Arkansas River bridge, has its ribbon cutting expected in early 2029. The later phases toward Clear Creek Road and I-40 are expected to start in 2027. ARDOT has said no interchange is planned at U.S. 64 in Alma.
Why does a Fort Smith sewer bill go up every January?
Fort Smith is under a federal consent decree over its sewer system. The modified decree approved in July 2026 makes it a condition that the city raise sewer rates 3.5% a year through 2030, with more increases after that if other money does not cover the work. The completion deadline for the work is June 30, 2038.
Does the property tax change when I buy a home in Sebastian or Crawford County?
Usually, yes. Amendment 79 caps how fast a home's taxable assessed value can rise while the same owner holds it, and the cap comes off when the home changes hands. Sebastian County reappraised in 2025, so a long-held home there can carry a bill well under what the next owner pays. You also have to file for the homestead credit yourself, with the county assessor, by October 15.
Where can I check the Arkansas River level near Fort Smith and Van Buren?
The National Weather Service keeps a river gauge at Van Buren, VBUA4, with the current stage and a forecast. FEMA's Flood Map Service Center shows whether a specific address is in a mapped flood zone, and Van Buren's floodplain management page explains the city's own rules.
Is Sparks hospital the same as Baptist Health-Fort Smith?
Yes. Baptist Health-Fort Smith was Sparks Regional Medical Center, and longtime residents and older listings still use the Sparks name. Mercy Hospital Fort Smith is the other hospital in the city, and Mercy also runs the rehabilitation hospital on the medical campus at Chaffee Crossing.
